PHUMULA
Hello and greetings from Okinawa! We are the owners of Phumula Guest Cottage and live on the property that the cottage is located on. Shiro is local Okinawan and Kirsten is originally from South Africa. We have two daughters and a very friendly dog named Franki.
We own Izumi Mango Orchard on which Phumula Guest Cottage is located. The mango orchard is a family run business that was established in 1988.
We are able to speak both Japanese and English and have tried our best to make everything understandable for both Japanese and English speakers. We love to meet new people and of course to see old faces, and we are very willing to share information of things to do and see locally.
Due to the current Corona Virus pandemic we limit our interaction with guests but please don`t hesitate to ask us questions. We can comfortably chat in the open air, outside the cottage.
Phumula Guest Cottage was first opened in February 2019.
We decided to reform our old mango packing room on the mango farm after loosing two large mango vinyl houses from typhoon damage in 2018.
Shiro`s mother had always said, "This place is not only for farming, but for tired people to rest and get well and to receive creative ideas from God. I want this to be a place where you can feel refreshed and leave invigorated."
This dream of our mother has become our dream too, hence we the owners, Shiro and Kirsten, hope that our guests who come to stay here, will find that space and time to rest and refresh in this tranquil setting.
The name of the cottage comes from the Zulu language of South Africa, the home country of Shiro`s wife Kirsten, and means "rest" or "take it easily and slowly".
If you are looking for a place to stop in time, to hear the sounds of nature, smell the freshness of the clean air, see green lush bush all around you and get away from it all, then pop in for a visit or stay at Phumula Okinawa.
